Turquoise water, powder-white sand and the timeless romance of the Spice Island — Zanzibar is one of the world's most breathtaking places to marry.
As a wedding planner in Zanzibar, we design and produce celebrations across the island — but our work is not limited to weddings.
Kevins Events plans, designs and produces luxury weddings and celebrations across Zanzibar. We are Tanzania's leading luxury event designer, and we bring a full team and complete production infrastructure to wherever on the island you choose to celebrate — from barefoot ceremonies on the north coast to candlelit dinners in the heart of Stone Town. Our clients travel from across Tanzania, West Africa, Europe, the Middle East and North America, and we design each celebration as a multi-day experience rather than a single day.
Why couples choose Zanzibar
Few destinations combine natural beauty and cultural depth the way Zanzibar does. A wedding here is never just a wedding — it is a holiday for everyone you love. Guests arrive for a few days and stay for a week: dhow cruises at sunset, spice farm visits, Stone Town's UNESCO-listed alleyways, and the option to pair the celebration with a Serengeti safari or a honeymoon without changing countries.
Where to celebrate on the island
The right setting depends on the celebration you want. Nungwi and Kendwa on the north coast offer the island's best swimming beaches and the most dramatic sunsets — ideal for barefoot ceremonies and large beach receptions. The east coast — Paje, Jambiani, Bwejuu — is quieter and more private, with wide tidal beaches suited to intimate celebrations. Stone Town brings history and architecture, perfect for a welcome dinner or a rooftop cocktail evening. And the island's private villas and exclusive-use properties allow a full buy-out, giving you complete privacy for a multi-day gathering.
We work with resorts, private villas and independent venues across the island. Because we are not tied to any single property, we recommend the venue that genuinely suits your guest count, your budget and the atmosphere you are after — not the one that pays a commission.
Getting married in Zanzibar: the practicalities
Zanzibar is very achievable for international couples, but the paperwork matters and the timelines are real. Foreign couples are generally required to be in the country for a short period before the ceremony and to present valid passports, birth certificates and a Certificate of No Impediment (or equivalent) from their home country; some nationalities need additional authentication. Requirements change, so we confirm the current position with the relevant offices for every couple and manage the process end to end.
Many international couples choose to complete the legal marriage at home and hold a symbolic ceremony in Zanzibar — it removes the paperwork pressure entirely and changes nothing about the day itself. We are happy to plan it either way, and we will tell you honestly which route we would recommend for your situation.
When to marry in Zanzibar
June to October is the cooler dry season and the most reliable window — it is also peak season, so venues and flights book out well ahead. January and February offer hot, clear weather between the rains. The long rains (roughly late March to May) are best avoided for outdoor celebrations, and November brings shorter afternoon showers. Because June to October also coincides with the Serengeti's high safari season, it is the natural window for couples combining a bush wedding with the beach.
What a Zanzibar celebration involves
Planning a wedding on an island from another country is a logistics exercise as much as a design one, and that is where most of the risk sits. Our work covers venue sourcing and negotiation, design and décor, architectural florals, lighting and staging, guest accommodation and transfers, welcome events and farewell brunches, vendor management, and full on-the-ground coordination for the entire stay. Everything that cannot be reliably sourced on the island, we bring with us.
Investment for a Zanzibar celebration depends entirely on scale, guest numbers and how much of the experience you want designed. Our celebrations begin from around 15 million TZS (just under USD 6,000), and destination weddings — which carry travel, freight and multi-day guest experiences — typically sit well above that. We will give you a clear picture at consultation rather than a vague package price.
Why work with a mainland planner
Resort wedding coordinators are excellent at running a venue's standard package. A design-led planner is a different proposition: we shape the entire guest journey, build custom installations, and hold the whole production together across multiple days and venues. We plan year-round throughout Tanzania — Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, the Serengeti, Arusha and Tanga — so our team, suppliers and production resources move with you rather than being limited to one property.
Beyond weddings: birthdays, anniversaries and corporate events in Zanzibar
Kevins Events is a full-service event planner in Zanzibar, not only a wedding planner. We design and produce milestone birthday parties, anniversary celebrations, engagement parties, corporate retreats, incentive trips, brand launches and private gatherings across the island. Many of our clients fly guests in for a milestone birthday exactly as they would for a wedding — a private villa buy-out, a beach dinner and a night that people talk about for years.
Whether you are searching for a wedding planner, a birthday planner or a party planner in Zanzibar, the approach is the same: a single team handling design, production, guest logistics and on-the-ground coordination from first idea to final farewell.
