When Anne's family approached Kevins Events, the brief was clear: this was not a birthday party. This was a landmark. A celebration of a life fully and beautifully lived. The design needed to match the weight of the occasion — bold, dramatic, unforgettable.
What followed was one of the most immersive event transformations the Kevins Events team has ever created in Dar es Salaam. From the ceiling to the dance floor, every surface was reimagined. Every detail was intentional.
The Vision — Drama and Depth
The colour story was built around deep crimson and gold — a palette that speaks of richness, warmth, and celebration without apology. Red roses were chosen not just as decoration but as the central design element, cascading from the ceiling, climbing towers of crystal candelabras, and carpeting every surface in bloom.
The goal was to create a space that felt like entering another world entirely. The kind of room where guests stop at the entrance, catch their breath, and reach for their phones — not because they were told to, but because they simply could not help it.

The Centrepiece — A Cake Worth Celebrating
At the heart of the design sat the cake installation — a five-tier tower in white and gold, flanked by soaring floral pillars and set against a dramatic draped backdrop bearing Anne's name in custom script. Hundreds of candles arranged on the mirrored dance floor created a glow that made the entire room feel alive.
This was not simply a cake table. It was a stage — designed to frame the moment Anne entered and saw it for the first time. That reaction, that genuine surprise and joy, is what Kevins Events designs towards.
"Every milestone deserves to be remembered for a lifetime. The design should do the remembering for you — so you can simply be present in the moment."
The Dining Experience — Gold, Crystal and Red Roses
The dinner setup was conceived as a continuation of the drama rather than a departure from it. Gold-legged tables with mirrored tops reflected the candlelight and the floral installations above. Crystal glassware caught every beam of the production lighting. And running the length of every table, a river of fresh red rose petals that guests reached across all evening.
Two distinct dining environments were created — an intimate inner room with cream draping, gold chandeliers and white upholstered chairs for the closest family, and a larger outer space for the full guest list. Both spaces felt cohesive, both felt considered, and neither felt like an afterthought.
The Production — Ceiling to Floor
What separates an event from an experience is the vertical dimension. Most decorators work at eye level. Kevins Events works with the entire space — walls, ceiling, floor, and every layer in between.
For Anne's celebration, the ceiling installation alone took an entire day to build. Thousands of red blooms and crystal droplets were suspended at varying heights to create a living canopy that guests sat beneath throughout the evening. Combined with precision production lighting that bathed the room in warm amber and deep crimson, the effect was nothing short of theatrical.

What Makes a Milestone Birthday Different
A 70th birthday is not like any other event. It carries the weight of a life — the people gathered are not just guests, they are witnesses. Planning at this level requires a deep understanding of what the client values, who they are, and what they want people to feel when they walk through the door.
At Kevins Events, every milestone celebration begins with a conversation — not about budgets or guest counts, but about the story. What has this person built? What do they love? What feeling should fill the room when they arrive?
The answers to those questions become the design brief. Everything else — the flowers, the lighting, the staging — is simply the language we use to tell it.
Planning Your Own Milestone Celebration in Dar es Salaam
Whether you are planning a 50th, a 60th, or a 70th — or any celebration that marks a chapter worth honouring — the approach is the same. Start with the story. Build the experience from there. And give yourself enough time for the design to breathe — we recommend a minimum of three to six months for events at this level of production.
Kevins Events works across Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Arusha and beyond. If you have a milestone on the horizon, we would love to begin the conversation.
